America has made a lot of progress on women’s issues since women finally gained the right to vote almost a hundred years ago. But as Jay and his wife try to raise a strong, independent daughter, it’s hard not to think about how much work we need to do to achieve gender equality for women.
Reducing Gun Violence
As State Senator, Jay Chaudhuri took on Republicans to push for stronger gun control laws to keep guns out of the hands of those who pose extreme risks to themselves and others and advocated for more funding for mental health in schools.

Preserving Net Neutrality
With the FCC doing away with net neutrality, Jay filed a bill to restore the principles of net neutrality that prevent blocking, throttling, and paid prioritization in order to protect the free and open internet in North Carolina.

PREVENTING HATE CRIMES
Jay worked with Equality NC to pass the Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which expanded the scope of protection from hate crimes to include sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, ethnicity, disability and gender.
PROVIDING A WORLD-CLASS EDUCTION
As the father of two young children, Jay believes nothing is more important than ensuring children are able to reach their potential. He worked to reduce the class size chaos in our schools. He continues to fight to restore the funding Republicans cut from public schools and to raise teacher salaries to above the national average.
Building North Carolina's Economy
Jay has focused on creating jobs, growing the local economy, and reducing inequality between the rich and the poor. He plans to make the economy more fair by cutting taxes for working and middle class families and by making the wealthy and big corporations pay their fair share, raising the minimum wage, and making sure women receive equal pay for equal work.
BUILDING NORTH CAROLINA'S ECONOMY
EXPANDING MEDICAID
Jay takes on Republicans who refuse to expand Medicaid. He believes we have a moral duty to provide access to affordable health coverage to all low-income families. In the Senate, he fights to ensure more working North Carolinians have access to basic healthcare coverage.
PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT
Jay is a champion for North Carolina's environment. He will continue to crack down on the big coal companies that pollute our rivers and air - and will work to combat climate change by making clean, renewable energy like wind and solar more accessible and affordable for North Carolina families and businesses.
FIGHTING DISCRIMINATION
Jay believes it is wrong that North Carolina law allows an employer to fire an employee just because they’re gay. He has fought to expand legislation that offer protection against hate crimes.
